MOTOR BOAT RACING.
RECORDS CREATED. SIR HENRY SEGRAVE’S FEAT. (Australian Press Association.—United Serivce.) VENICE, Sept. 14. Sir Henry Segrave created a motor boat speed of 93J miles, an hour in the race for the Counvolpis Cup at the Lido regatta. He passed the Miss America, which was Piloted by Mr Phil Wood, a brother of Mr Gar Wood the owner of the craft, at the first turn. Sir Henry will not do any further racing. . , ... ~ The Miss America collided with the Miss England, Sir Henry Segrave s craft. Both Mr Wood and his mechanic were pitched into the water. Miss America went on without a guide, jumped into tho air and flopped into the water upside down. The hull is a hopeless wreck, but tho engines are little damaged. Her sister speedboat hurried to the spot, and picked up the crew. The mechanic was unconscious, and was almost drowned. Both were sent to the hospital. The Crown Prince’s Cup has been awarded to Sir Henry Segrave for a speed of 92i miles attained on September 12.
WOMAN’S ACHIEVEMENT. (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, Sept. 15. The Hon. Mrs Victor Brace has established a speed-boat world’s record at Southampton. In twenty-four hours she did 691 miles, with only six brief stops for refuelling.
