SALVATION ARMY.
VISIT OF COMMISSIONER HAY.
Commissioner James Hay, territorial commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, and Mrs Hay paid a farewell visit to Palmerston North on Saturday prior to their departure from New Zealand. Large meetings were held during the day and they proved eminently successful. In the afternoon a lecture was given by the Commissioner in the Coronation Hall, Terrace End. This was presided over by Mr J. A. Nash, M.P. The chairman made eulogistic reference to the Salvation Army work generally and spoke highly of Commissioner and Mrs Hay, who, lie was sorry to learn, were leaving New Zealand. He felt, however, that, as in the past when good officers had been removed from the Dominion, there were others, .also good, to take their places. In this respect he felt that the Salvation Army was very fortunate - ’! Commissioner Hay, in lecturing on personal reminiscences of the founder of the Army, the late General William Booth, proved a most interesting speaker and his audience thoroughly enjoyed his hour’s discourse. At an evening meeting in the Citadel Commissioner Hay announced that his successor, Commissioner John _ Cunningham, would probably arrive in New Zealand during the early part of November and, no doubt, would _ visit Palmerston North shortly after his arrival.
