HOSPITAL CLINIC.
IN RANGITIKEI STREET. TO BE CLOSED. The Palmerston North Hospital Board decided yesterday to close the clinic which it has conducted for some time past in Rangitikei Street. Notice of motion was given by Mr A. E. Mansford at the last meeting of the board: “That the necessary notice be given to terminate the lease of the T.B. clinic rooms.” The medical superintendent had stated that the attendance was disappointing, said Mr Mansford, who considered that the expenses were too great for the benefits given. The clinic must be costing over £4 per week to run.
Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., said he had been informed by the Director-General of Health that attendances at similar clinics in other centres had been disappointing. The managing secretary commented that all things considered the board would probably be better off without the clinic.
The chairman (Mr J. K. Hornblow) stated that he was sorry a course of action was proposed to close the clinic for dealing with incipient cases, as the matter had been one in which the late chairman had been particularly interested. However, apparently the clinic had not been justified, and there was apparently no alternative but to close it.
