PERSONAL.
Messrs D. T. Allan and C. Woods were admitted to membership of the Rotary Club at the meeting of that body yesterday.
Visitors welcomed at the Rotary Club yesterday were Messrs C. F. Cronin, J. Cunninghame, P. W. Morris, L. Pierard. H. Townsend, J. B. Gerrand, T. Simpson. R. Whitford, H. Clapham, C. Adams, T. Hajfes, A. E. Ekstedt, R. Meikle, all of Palmerston' North, and C. M. Richwhite, W. Mathieson (Auckland) and F. Flavell (Wanganui).
A picturesque personality amongst the Maori mission delegation now visiting Palmerston North is the old chief Te Ahoot Rangi Pihama, of the Waikato and King Country. The old chief is of the old school and is a direct descendant in the male line of Hoturoa, the chief of the Tainui canoe in which the ancestors of the Kingite and Waikato Maoris came from Hawaiki to Now Zealand 800 years ago, _ The old chief is said to be the best waiata singer in the Dominion. Pleasure was expressed at the Rotary Club yesterday that Rotarian Jas. Wallace is on the road to recovery from his recent illness and the hope was expressed that he would be able to take his place at the club meetings at an early date.
