METHODS OF POLICE.
EVIDENCE UNDER THREAT. (Australian Press Association.) AMSTERDAM, Sept. 15. Two labourers named Kliden and Theunissen have just been released after serving four of their fifteen years sentence for the murder of a letel-crossing watchman near Diessenniuwerk. The watchman was believed to have been killed by a ' hammer blow, the motive presumably being robbery. The men were convicted mainly on the evidence of a married couple with whom they stayed the night the body was found. The couple have now confessed with remorse that their evidence was given under police pressure and threats of imprisonment. The wife’s written statement discloses foul police methods. The Advocate-General is conducting a rigorous investigation.
