RUGBY CONTROL.

MANAWATU DISTRICT COUNCIL. The weeekly meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu District Rugby Council was held last evening when there were present : —Messrs. J. A. Colquhoun (in the chair), J. R. Hardie, H. Crawford, K. Eglinton, H. Hands and T. McHerron. An apology for absence was received from Mr It. E. Hatch.

The Kia Toa Club wrote seeking ; remission for its fourth grade team to play Pirates (Wanganui) fifths on Saturday. An earlier date had been agreed to, but owing to a re-arrange-ment in the Wanganui fixtures the game had to bo postponed. The request was acceded to, No. 5 playing area at the Showgrounds being allotted.

Tlie Wellington Union vroto extending thanks for the hospitality extended its fourth grade team during its visit to Palmerston North, special reference being, made to Mr Hatch’s efforts. It was also asked that a similar message be passed on to the authorities at Levin for kindness extended to tlie junior visitors to that town.—Received. The Horowhenua Council made a request that the Rowland’s 1 Cup match btween the Kia Toa and Otaki juniors, as champions of their grade in the respective districts, be played at Levin on the 28th inst., the game to commence at 2.30 p.m. The request was acceded to. SHOWGROUNDS AREA. Attention was directed to the state of the playing areas at the Showgrounds, it being tho general opinion that some of the areas were fast becoming dangerous for play. It was decided to approach the Manawatu A. and P. Association in an endeavour to have something done in respect of returfing the oval, particularly in view of the visit of the Englishmen early next season. PARK ROAD GROUND. The Park Road committee, appointed to control the area, reported that it was of the opinion that the balance of the reserve, viz. 10 acres, should be prepared for play and it, therefore, recommended that levels be taken, specifications prepared and tenders called for the work of ploughing, levelling, draining and putting down in grass. Some difference of opinion as to the period of the year during which the levelling and filling should be undertaken was forthcoming, MiHands maintaining that, if the work were undertaken as soon as the weather conditions were favourable, the filled in areas would consolidate better. His contention was supported by Mr Hardie and the sub-committee was authorised to call tenders for the ploughing of the Park Road area immediately and to secure an estimate for the ‘levelling, etc., of the balance of the ground for presentation at next meeting. SATURDAY’S FIXTURES. Senior.—Kia Toa v. Old Boys, Oval, Showgrounds, 3 p.m., Mr F. S. Hewitt. Junior. —Kia To B v. Old Boys, Oval, Showgrounds, 1.30 p.m., Mr A. Gordon; Kia, Toa A. v.
