WOMEN’S WORLD.

(By “GERA

Mrs H. Lawrence leaves to-day for her home in Christchurch. Mrs It. Homan is on a visit to Napier.

Dr. AVinsome Young, Ph.D., arrived in Christchurch the other day from London. For the past three years she has been studying at Holloway College, London, as Royal Holloway Scholar. Mrs J. H. P. Strang arrives in Wellington to-day from England and will come to Palmerston North for a short stay before proceeding to New Plymouth. Miss B. Loughnan and Mr C. A. Loughnan, of Otane, Hawke’s Bay, have gone to Wellington to meet Major and Mrs Mead, who arrive there to-day from England. They will pass through Palmerston North on their way to Otane. Soft and becoming best describes the new winter millinery in London. Hard lines and acute angles have given away to soft fojds, graceful curves and draped effects. Featherweight velours.and fur felts with antelope finish will be among the most popular materials, as they can drape and mould well to the head. There is also a new material called furlour, which is something between felt and velour. The small models 'are much more graceful' aild more comfortable than the blocked models of last - year. They are draped, gathered, pleated, delightfully cut and curved with great diversity of style. The hundredth anniversary of her birthday will be celebrated on Novem- j ber 25 by Mrs S. Neiisen, a well-known | resident of Roto-o-rangi, near Cam- 1 bridge. Mrs Neiisen,: who lives with her grandson, Mr Jacobsen, at Highlands, on the .main To Awamutu Road, came to New Zealand 50 years ago on the sailing ship Rix Star. In spite of her age she retains all her faculties and is still able to get about and take a lively interest in affairs. BRIDGE EVENING. A delightful little surprise bridge party was taken to the home of Mrs M. Patton, of Sydney Street, on Monday evening. The cosy drawingroom was arranged with a profusion of autumn blooms and foliage, and a pleasant time was spent. Prizes were S resented at the conclusion of play to lesdames Newlands and Forrest. Those present were Mesdames Davies, Alenzies, Allan, Banks, Stevenson, J. Allan, Hay, Davidson, Honore, Forrest and Newlands.
