LABOURER FINED.
FOR INDECENT LANGUAGE. “You must learn to moderate your language,” commented Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when imposing a fine of £1 with 3s costs, on Hisley Short, a labourer aged 28, who appeared before him charged with using indecent language in Cuba Street yesterday. Defendant pleaded guilty. Senior-Detective Quirke stated that defendant was a labourer residing at Awahuri. At 5 p.m., yesterday, he went into a fish shop and subsequently had ail altercation over the price of a meal, for which he was not paying fully. He was using the language complained of, being obviously under the influence of liquor, and had emerged from the shop when apprehended by Detective Barling. Defendant applied for time to pay the fine, and was allowed 24 hours, in default seven days’ imprisonment. He was advised also to pay the Is 6d owing on the meal.
