EDUCATION BOARD
REPORT BY ARCHITECT. WORK IN SCHOOLS. Tho Wanganui Education Board met yesterday, Mr W. A. Collins, presiding. There were also present Messrs. W. Adams, J. Aiken, R. Dukeson, J. Tingey, S. Coleman, J. K. Hornblow, E. F. Hemingway, M. H. Oram, and W. S. Woodroffe. The following report was submitted by the architect: West End.—The whole of the exterior wood and iron work has been painted in two coats, and the roof in one coat. The interior woodwork has been painted and the whole of the interior walls distempered. Palmerston North Central.—A partition has been erected across the corridor in order to close off that portion used in connection with the dental clinic. A wooden screen has been erected in the dental clinic to furnish some privacy for the nurses. The sheet-iron down piping and rain heads have been removed and copper downs and heads fixed. Sumps have been built at the foot of each stack and the seal to the drains broken.
Colyton.—The school porch has been matched lined to ceilings and walls and general repairs effected to all the building. Terrace End. —The interior walls of the four original brick, classrooms have been distempered. Foxton. —Repairs have been carried out to the spoutings and a good cleaning out effected. The heating plant has been overhauled and tested. A new storm water drain has been laid from one corner of the building to a new sump. Tiakitahuna. —The school, residence and outbuildings are painted in two coats. It was stated that it was proposed during the ensuing month to erect extensions to the out-offices at Te Arakura, to erect additional bicycle shed accommodation at Manchester Street, and to start a new building at College Street, if the site conditions permitted.
