MAORI NAMES.

CORRECT PRONUNCIATION. SUGGESTION FOR TRAINING COLLEGES. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 19. Stating that its attention had been drawn to the desirability of securing the correct pronunciation of Maori names in schools, the Education Department advised the Auckland Education Board that it had devoted to this matter a sectioii of one of its pamphlets to the schools. It was further stated that where there were Maoris in the vicinity of a teachers’ training college a few lessons from one of them would be of great use. The department would be pleased to consider any proposals made along such lines. The letter was received and it was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the principal of the Auckland Training College.
