MODEL FOR AUSTRALIA.

“WANT TO BE LIKE AMERICA.” TRADE COMMISSIONER’S STATEMENT. (Australian Press Association.) NEW YORK, Sept. 17. Mr Brookes, .the Australian Trade Commissioner, to-day officially approved of Australia’s warning concerning the United States tariff. Mr Brookes issued the following statement: “My job is to advertise Australia to the Americans. We have vast areas of good land waiting for farmers. It would bo a pity if anything should occur to mar the present friendly feeling which the Australians have for Americans. The United States 16 Australia’s model. We study everything you do and endeavour to imitate you to the best advantage. We want to be like America. It seems to me that the wise thing would be for our two countries to get closer and closer together, rather than raise up walls against each other.”
