FEILDING

AGRICULTURAL HIGH SCHOOL.

(Special to “Standard.”) , ' FEILDING, Sept. 19. The annual meeting of the Board of Managers of the Feilding Agricultural High School was held last night, those present being Mrs J. E Baritrop. Mrs J. S. Tingey, Messrs, H. Tolley, A. H. Akkinson, Jas. Knight, H. Mclntyre, A. Williamson, W. W. Andrews, E. H. Brewer, 0. Aldis and the principal, Mr L. J. Wild. In moving that Mr Tolley be reelected chairman for the ensuing year, Mr Mclntyre referred to the long term of office which Mr Tolley had given the board and the school, and he knew of no one more fitting to occupy the position. Under Mr Tolley’s policy the school had prospered. Mr Knight seconded the motion which was carried unanimously. Mr Tolley thanked the board for the honour it had conferred upon him and pointed out that the office _ °t chairman, in his opinion, was one that should go round. However, he was perfectly willing to continue to do all that was in his power to secure the advancement of the school. Mr Mclntyre was appointed vicechairman of the board. The following committee were re-ap-pointed :—Finance, Messrs Atkinson and Buist; farm, Messrs Campbell, Knight, Atkinson and G. V. Wild, grounds and buildings, Mrs Barltrop, Mrs Tingey, Messrs Andrews, \V llliam6on, Knight and McClure; house, Mrs Barltrop, Mrs Tingey, Messrs Brewer, Buist; technical college, Messrs Aldis, Ross; girls’ 6ide, Mrs Barltrop, Mrs Tingey, Miss McKenzie, Mr Andrews; library, Messrs Mclntyre, Aldis, Williamson and Ross. , , The monthly meeting of the board was then held. ACCIDENT INSURANCE. In regard to the matter of insuring pupils at the school against accident eitner at the school or on the farm, it was decided to take out a policy covering the board against a claim for £SOO in any one year with a limit ot £4OOO. imTTO SCHOOL BATHS. Discussing a letter received from the Borough Council in regard to the supply of water to the school baths, the chairman said that the idea had. at first been to charge the board iolo for its yearly supply of water, but this had been amended somewhat and the charge now suggested was 6d per 1000 gallons, this charge to stand for one year and then, be reviewed. By tilling the baths, says, about eight times a year, Mr Tolley thought that the £2o would not lie exceeded, or perhaps the position could be better met by haltfilling the baths sixteen times during the season. Referring again to the charge for the water, the speaker thought that some charge would have to be made on the pupils of both the High School and Lytton Street School for the use of the baths. He regretted that the Borough Council had not sufficient water available to give the board its full requirement and stated that he, as a ratepayer, was fully prepared to stand his share of the cost of providing the new main from North Street corner which would get over the difficulty in regard to the supply to the school. Mr Brewer said that to fill the baths only eight times in the year was inviting trouble for, from his knowledge of the river water, it ought to be changed at least once a week to keep the baths in hygienic condition. There would be a large number of pupils using the baths and the risk of contamination would be great if the water became stagnant. Mr Tolley said that matter had been thought of, and he understood that bluestone added to the water would keep it in good condition. In reply to a question, Mr Wild said he did not know how much bluestone would be required, but it was essential that the baths be kept in hygienic condition. ' ... Following a further discussion, it was decided, on the motion of Mr Knight, to accept the Borough Council’s terms in regard to the cost and supply of the water for one year. The ground committee was empowered to proceed with the work of erecting shelter sheds, etc., at the baths.

■WEDDING.

SCOTNEY—MANN.

A wedding that evoked much interest was celebrated in the Methodist Church, Feilding, on Wednesday, September 18, when Rita Ngaire, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs F. J. Mann, East Street, was married to Oliver, •eldekt son of Mr and Mrs H. Scotney, Tasman Street, Wellington. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was very winsome in her beautiful wedding robe of ivory silver-beaded georgette mounted on a silk foundation hemmed with Honiton lace. A soft handkerchief draping at either side of the skirt fell to give an uneven hemline, the rucked waist being finished with a posy and trailing ends of orange blossom. A filmy veil of embroidered silk tulle was arranged Juliette fashion with a slender spray of orange buds and brilliants circling the bride’s head. Silver shoes and stockings were worn, a double string of seed pearls, • and an exquisito bouquet carried consisting of pink and white hyacinths and cyclamen interspersed with , asparagus and maidenhair fern and tied with tulle and silver ribbon. The three bridesmaids in attendance were Miss Molly Agar (chief), a cousin of the bride from Lyttelton, Miss Ruby Agar, a cousin from Helensville, and Miss _ Thelma Scotney, a cousin of the bridegroom from Wellington. A reception was held at the Parish Hall later when the usual toasts were honoured. Mr and Mrs Scotney will make their home in Feilding.
