FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
The Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows, held the usual fortnightly meeting last evening, Ts.O. Bro. llees presiding over a large gathering. Two candidates were initiated into the order. Lodge honours were extended visitors who were present from Loyal Rangiwaliia Lodge and the Timaru Lodge, the visitors suitably replying. Sister Scroggs very kindly presented to the lodge a medal as a trophy for the forthcoming ritual competition and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A motion of condolence was passed to the Sisters and Bro. Munro in their recent bereavements, members standing in silence. Two candidates were preposed for membership. The lodge was closed at 9.30 p.m., when supper was served by the sisters present, after which a game of carpet bowls was enjoyed, others dancing. The fortnightly meeting of Court Manawatu, A.0.F., No. 5(555, was held in the Foresters’ Hall, Main Street, on Monday night. C.lt. Bro. Drinkwater presided over a good attendance of members including a number of visiting brethren from other courts in the district. An invitation was received from the sisters of Court Hinemoa to a return match at indoor bowls. Invitations were also received from Court Pride of Levin and Court Rodrick Dliu, Wanganui, to attend their anniversary socials and a number of brothers signified their intention of making the trip to both courts. One candidate was initiated into the court and order and one proposed for membership. At the conclusion of the meeting a bowling tournament took place between members of Court Manawatu. The games were interesting and finally ended in a draw.
