PERSONAL.
Mr L. A. Paish, the recent successor to Mr L. B. Beale as British Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, visited Palmerston North yesterday and inspected a number of the dairy factories in the district. He also visited Massey College. A Press Association message from Gisborne announces the death of the wife of Dr. Hall, medical superintendent of the Gisborne Hospital. Mrs Hall was a qualified practitioner, and had been house surgeon at the hospital for several years. An interesting personality heartily welcomed to the motor traders’ conference in the Municipal Hall, yesterday, was Mr Ed. G. Willems, of an automobile company of Syracuse, U.S.A. Mr Willems expressed his pleasure at being present at the gathering and assured the traders of a very warm welcome should they visit his country. He intends remaining in New Zealand on business until October 19, when he leaves for South America, returning to New York on January 8 to attend tho New York Motor Show. Mr Willems visited New Zealand some 12 years ago and is veryj much impressed with the warm friendship that has been shown to him. He is a great admirer of New Zealand, where he states, he feels at home. Mr Willems considers that we have advanced ideas of government and is of the opinion that our steadily progressing towns, with their well distributed population, are an outstanding feature.
