DENTAL CLINICS
FACILITIES FOR COUNTRY.
DISCUSSION BY FARMERS. The dental clinic facilities available for country children were again discussed at the monthly meeting of the executive of the Dairy Farmers Union Mr Richardson asked why the town children should receive preference when the country people were helping to pay for tho service. Mr Short disagreed, -stating that from inquiries madfo it had been revealed that every facility was given to his district, and the costs were allocated according to the number treated. The N chifdren in his area were receiving just as equitable treatment as those in tho town, and if others were neglected then the school committees must be backward. Mr Richardson stated that the school committees had been agitating for a long time for the service. Mr Poupard said that as the majority of the children with Lad teeth were in the town, it was quite right that they should .receive'treatment first. Tho service could be extended later. The scheme was a very , large one and only just beginning. , Mr P. J. Small stated that, if. it were advocated all over the • Dominion that country children should receive the same benefits as the town children, the education system would soon cost half tho earnings of the people. They should be careful and ‘‘go slow. He would like to see the teeth of all the children attended to if possible, but he realised the difficulty. Mr Short stated that , there was no need for a town versus country issue at all. His district co-operated with the town. ... The chairman (Mr N. Campbell) suggested that one day be set. aside for country children in town' clinics and ho moved that the Minister be written to with such a request. ‘ ' Mr Richardson supported him, and the resolution was carried.
