DOWN THE LINE

(From Our Own Correspondent). OTAKI, Sept. 19. The monthly meeting of the Otaki *jF e Police was presided over by G. R. omytn. Superintendent Cockrell outlined the duties of fire police, stating that such had been elected for assisting tho brigade, viz., to keep the public back from a fire, see that fire hoses were clear, to keep an eye on salvage, or assistnig in securing same from a threatened building. On no account was a member of the lire police to enter a burning building, but they could assist otherwise. It was suggested that application be made to the board for six extra armlets in case any member of the police had no time to secure his in case of fire; the additional ones could be kept on the fire engine. It was also decided to ask the board to supply a 130 ft. length sufficient to reach across the street to act as a barricado in case of fire; by this means the general public could be kept back and the brigade thus given plenty of room for work. Three persons were proposed as members of the police, and if tho positions are accepted they will be sworn in on the next meeting night.
