for the bids wore fow in number. Except for a bid of 28s 9d for Bank of New Zealand long-term there was no demand for bank shares. Gas shares were steady and in fair demand with scarcely any change in values. New Zealand Breweries shares were slightly weaker. Newton King preference have not been quoted for some days, but yesterday there was a bid of 13s as against 11s previously. The miscellaneous section was very quiet. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Lid., havo received the following from their London House under date of 17th instant:—There was a good attendance at the opening of the woo sales, to-day, competition by Homo and Continental'buyers being active, and prices as compared with the close of preceding series ruled about 10 per cent. Tower for Merino and fine crossbred, about 71. per cent, lower for medium crossbred and about 5 per cent, lower for coarse crossbred. For Merino shabby and wasty thero was a very poor demand. The opening catalogues were fairly representative.
