BOXING CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Sept. 20. On Thursday evening the younger members of the llongotca Boxing Club held a social evening at the Coronation Hall to make a presentation to their instructor, Mr L. Ponpard, who has always shown a, keen and unfailing interest in tho welfare of the chib. Apologies for their absence wore received from Mr A. Burgess (president), and Mr T. A. Knight, who regretted their inability to be present. Master Joseph lmrio, on behalf of tho boys, in presenting Mr Poupard with a handsome set of pipes, thanked him for the many services which he had rendered to tho club and its members, and sincerely hoped that, ho would next year again officiate in the capacity of instructor. Mr Poupard. on rising to reply, received a hearty ovation. In thanking the boys for thoir present, lie stated that bo had been interested in tho club mainly because it was his aim to see that ail boys should have a fair knowledge of the art of selfdefence. He hoped that he would be back next year to continue coaching the boys, but if 1..- was prevented in any way from returning he would never loso liis interest

Mr Kudos, in reply, thanked Mr Trenkner for bin remarks and only hoped that ho wan worthy of them. The next toast wan that of the club captain, Mr W. (J. (fust, propound by Mr Poupard. Mr (Just as captain had shown a great interest in the welfare of the club, and his capabilities aa a .boxer were undoubted, said Mr Poupard. Mr Gust briefly thanked Mr Poupard for lii.n remarks and imped that the club would continue in a successful manner next year. In proposing the I oast of Mr A. N. Morcom. Mr Arrmtt stated wind, an asset to the club Mr Morcom was. Jle was very interested in all branches of sport, and lie imped that the club would retain lii.s services for a long time. Air Morcom briefly responded. The noxt toast to be proposed was that of Mr A. Trenkner. one of the foundation members of tho club. Mr Trenkner had
always shown a keen interest, and it is largely due lo him that tho club is in the position which it is in to-day. lo reply Mr Trenkner stated that it was a pleasure to lie associated with such a chili, ami he Imped that its success would coiilimie. Ho stated that the members of tho ciuli had fought 32 matches, winning It*, drawing 9, and losing 7, which wao a very good record. Tim last toast of the evening was that of the younger members of the chib, proposed by Mr 8. R. Young and responded to by Mr E. Gust, Ray Will and R. Anion. Mr 0. Donovnn gave several musical items after which a very pleasant evening was brought to a close by tile singing of “A uld Lang Syne.” SOCIAL CLUB. The Social Club held its usual weekly euchre tournament in tile Masonic Hall on Thursday evening when a largo number of players attended. Prizes for the evening wero won by Mrs Trenkner (ladies), and Miss Nicholas (consolation), and by Air A. W. Thompson (gentlemen) and Mr Tlios. Pitt (consolation). Afxot supper, served by the ladies, further card games wore indulged in until a late, hour. PERSONAL. AJiss P. Gfoyn lias returned front a holiday spent in Auckland. Airs AI. A. Young is visiting her parents at Oamaru.
