CHARGE OF THEFT.

ACCUSED REMANDED. Alfred Arthur Gurney, a labourer, aged 25, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., charged with the theft at Palmerston North on April 20 of £2, the property of G. D. J. Toms. On the application of Senior-Detective Whitehouse, accused, who was represented by Mr Gordon,- was -remanded for a week to enable further inquiries to be made. An application for bail was opposed by the seniorTsergeant. who said that accused was a “bird of passage” with a list of previous convictions and that there would probably be other charges brought against him. Tlie Magistrate, however, granted bail in self of £lO3 and two sureties of £SO.
