Lap won the Rosehill Guineas AVONDALE MEETING. FAVOURITE’S SUCCESS IN CUP. Per Prcsa Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 21. The totalisator receipts were £46,797 compared with £26,919 10s for tho corresponding day of last year. An inquiry into the start of the Flying Stakes resulted in Mr O’Connor stating that all the horses were facing the barrier when he released it. Ilis explanation was accepted. In the first division of tho Maiden Plato Valquctte was the first into the straight, followed by Gay Duke, Hannibal, Clopton and Mountain Guide, but Lucky Alice came through very fast to beat Mountain Guide, who also finished well, Alloy being fourth. In the second division a furlong from home Crimestor looked to have the race safe, but he tired, Mauriaena getting to the post to win by half a head. Fraser was fourth. In the Kingsland Hurdles, crossing tho top on the journey homo Red Comet was twelve lengths clear of tho rest of tho field, the nearest being Master Doon and Master Roley. Red Comet maintained his lead, beating Lady Spalpeen by seven lengths. Sir Archie was fourth. Glena Bay and Waltzer fell at tho first fence, and Gold Rep at the second, Luminary going along the back, and Sleepy Sol at the last hurdle. In the Members’ Handicap Billikins was first into the straight with Leader, who came through fast, just behind, followed by Value, Lady’s Boy, Cynthia N. and Oration. Lady’s Boy finished best and got the verdict by a head from Oration. Cynthia N. was fourth. In the Cup as the field turned for home King Emerald was just ahead of High Pitch, attended by Piuthair, Historic, Tancriri and Hyde Park. The latter, Prodice and Historic challenged the leaders, Historic finishing best and got the verdict by three-quarters of a length. Prince Humphrey was fourth. In the Avondale Stakes Hard Words (the favourite) led into tho straight followed by Watch Officer, Lineage and Appeal (the last two being coupled). Lineage took charge later on and stalled off Imamint, who came with a late run, to win by a neck. Watch Officer was two and a half length? away third. RACING IN DETAIL. LIMERICK’S FAILURE.
“UNLIKELY TO RAGE AGAIN.”
SYDNEY, Sept. 21. Limerick’s failure caused sorno chagrin to his supporters, who expected him to account for the rest of the field rather easily. He was short in the forelegs doing his preliminary, but ho began the race well. Ho was soon, however, acting as rearguard, and finished ingloriously. Returning to weight in, ho was lame in the forelegs and limping slightly behind. Trainer F. D. Jones is disappointed, and says that if Limerick does not improve ho will not start at the A.J.C. Carnival.
Tho veterinary opinion regarding Limerick is not reassuring. It is cci.sidered that the champion is not likely to race again. His absence from Randwick will rob the woight-for-ago events there oi much interest. It is a matter for regret that tho trouble has proved so serious, for Limerick was at the top of his form and his chance of setting a new record in stake winnings looked very bright. It is, of course, possible that Limerick will race again, but his troublo is the worst that could occur in tho ligament, and in any case he will have to be spelled for a. long time. It was an ill-judged trip to Melbourne when he was a three-year-old with that unsound foot.
Limerick has won £38.729 10s in stakes, second, to Gloaming’s £43,100.
