BRITISH RAGE
VITAL PART IN FUTURE OF WORLD. “I was struck by the bravery and fine qualities of tlie Australian gers’ with whom I was in contact while a chaplain of the Guards in France during the war.” . . This statement was made m England by Canon F. IV. Head of Liverpool, wlio has accepted the Archbishopric or Melbourne. . “I have heard that their language was most vigorous, but I do not recall any outstanding examples. This will be my first visit to Australia. It will be a great privilege to share the life of that great Dominion and see something of Church development in tire British Empire overseas. “I have always been keen on the Empire. I believe in God’s caff to the British nace. “The Empire stands for truth, justice and fair-dealing, and will play a vital part in the future of the world.’ AN OPEN MIND. Canon Head said that he preferred not to discuss questions such as the relations of the Church to the masses or a White Australia. Conditions in Australia, he said, were so different from those in England. “I shall go with an open mind, and I am anxious not to commit myself definitely on any such matters until I have studied them on the spot,” he continued. “I have been interested in social and economic problems here, and I was resident, after leaving Cambridge, at tlie University Settlement. The benefit of such contacts is not one-sided. Students who go to the settlement see a new aspect of life and people obtain a fuller realisation of bow tlie other half of the world lives.” Canon Head leaves for Canada at the end of September, returning to England a month later. Ho will then leave for Australia.
