PLEA AMENDED.

THEFT CHARGES ADMITTED. SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT. Harry Blake, a labourer of Palmerston North, 26 years of age, appeared on remand before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., this morning charged that, on 15th September, he did steal one shirt and gold tie pin of the value of £2 Is 6d, the property of A. 1. Cooper j also that, on the same date, he did commit the theft of an overcoat of the value of £1 10s, the property of some person unknown. When previously before tlio court accused had admitted the offence in the first instance, but had pleaded not guilty to the second charge. However, this morning he expressed the desire to amend his plea in the latter instance to one of guilty. Senior-Detective Quirke, in outlining the circumstances of the case, stated that accused had been living in Palmerston North some five or six weeks during which time he had been engaged in canvassing. The first mentioned theft had been committed at the expense of a friend, but the police had been unable to ascertain the owner of the overcoat. There were two previous convictions recorded against him, added the Senior-Detective.

Sentence of three months’ imprisonment on each'charge was inflicted, the terms to be cumulative.
