THE SESSION
MAY FINISH NEXT MONTH. LITTLE LEGISLATION. (Bv Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) "WELLINGTON, Sept. 23 The Prime Minister now thinks that the session should finish by the end rf October. If so it may be token for granted that the amount of legislation passed will be unusually small. The Government, however, have to get some important bills through both houses, and this cannot be done without a good deal of criticism. There will also be a debate on the Railway Statement which it is expected will be presented this week. . _ . It seems evident now that Sir Joseph Ward will be content this session with a rather thin statute book m which land legislation will bulk prominently. The extra taxation proposals ot the Government will be keenly discussed, and there are still important sections of the estimates to be passed. The Treasury estimates may see a revival of the discusion on the confidential cable message that Hon. W. Dowmo Stewart is supposed to have sent to London regarding New Zealand borrowing and which Sir Joseph W ard stated has hampered him in his loan ar-
