FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent). FOXTON, Sept. 25. A good run of whitebait was experienced in the Manawatu River yesterday. The fish are still hard to net, however. It is anticipated that with the next spring tide and more settled weather bait will be plentiful in Foxton. A meeting of the Rangitikei Clerical Association was held in All Saints’ Church yesterday, ministers being present from all parts of the district.
Tlio Manawatu County Council emplyecs are completing the last'Tap of the construction work on the Himatangi-Rangiotu highway. It will be some time before tho new construction work settles down in readiness for sealing. The Foxton-Hima-tangi section should soon be ready for sealing. A sharp earthquake was experienced locally at 2.15 a.m. on Tuesday. The friends of Mr F. Carmont, of Johnston Street, will regret to learn that ho underwent a serious operation in a private hospital in Wellington last Friday. He is, however, reported to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Master Thco. Perreau, youngest son of Mr and Mrs M. E. Perreau, and a pupil of the local District High School, has accepted a cadetship in the Civil Service at Wellington. Mrs T. Saunders, of Glen Oroua, is at present spending a few days holiday with her daughter, Mrs It. Hornblow, of Foxton.
