LAWN TENNIS.

ST. PATRICK’S CLUB. The annual meeting of St. Patrick s Tennis Club was held last' evening, Rev. Father Heriihy presiding. The report stated as follows:- During the past season, tennis, as far as the club was concerned, took on a new lease of life, the interest of members being sustained until play became impossible owing to the weather. Thanks to the allocation of Mr F. O’Connor’s trophy to the ladder contest, competition was very keen, particularly in the concluding stages, when matches were played nightly. Miss B. Neagle proved victorious, Miss D. Wischnewsky being runnerup. It was found necessary to purchase a new net during the season and this helped players considerably. The thanks of the club are due to Father Heriihy for marking the courts and to Mr O’Donnell for his excellent work. It is suggested that the club make a donation to the presentation fund in connection with the departure of Mr O’Donnell from Palmerston North. Thanks are also due to an anonymous donor of £2 2s. The finances are in a sound condition for so young a body, there being a satisfactory credit balance. It is to be hoped that members will pull together again this season and ensure that, from a social and financial viewpoint, the coming year will prove even a greater success.”— The report was adopted. Officers were elected as follow: Patron, Very Rev. Dean MacManus; president, Rev. Father Heriihy; vicepresidents, Mrs H. N. Watson, Messrs P. J. O’Connor, J. Lynch and W. Devine; secretary, Mr P. E. Flood; club captain, Miss C. Bartlett; committee, Misses D. Wischnewsky, O. Spelman, A. Bailout, Messrs R. Forrest and D. Stonehouse. It was decided to take steps to prevent the roots of trees damaging the courts. Arrangements for an opening day were left in the hands of the executive. After some discussion it was decided to have one court top-dressed provided that the cost is not prohibitive.
