COAL CARRIERS.
DISTURBING SERIES OF FIRES. "PERTH, Sept. 24. The steamer Anthea has sent a wireless message stating that she picked up the crew of the Silton Hall, which is on fire in the Indian Ocean. All the members are well. The collier has been abandoned on fire in position latitude 40-58 degrees south, and longitude 89-5 degrees east. • The Silton Hall left Durban on September 5 for Adelaide. It is believed that spontaneous combustion was responsible for the fire amongst the coal. Recently fires have occurred on other vessels bringing coal to Australia—namely, the King Cadwallon, which was destroyed last July off South Africa; the steamer Rlrymey, which returned to Durban with fires in all holds; then the steamer Ivnockfierna, which is now at Albany; then the motorship Tricolour, on which a fire occurred in Sydney harbour after her arrival with Scottish coal.
