THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A cyclone- of- slight intensity is approaching the northern extremity of New Zealand, while a moderate depression is crossing the Tasman. Conditions are disturbed over Australia. Moderate to strong northerly winds, backing to west and south-west. Seas rather rough north of East Cape, on the West Coast and about Cook Strait; moderate elsewhere in New Zealand waters. Winds moderate to strong in the Eastern Tasman Sea, northerly in the extreme eastern portion, but a southerly change advancing from the westward. Weather dull, misty and unsettled, with rain in all western districts and the far north; elsewhere fair at first, but unsettled conditions with scattered rain gradually becoming general; temperatures mild, but becoming cooler.
, DISTRICT REPORT. UNSETTLED CONDITIONS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day:—The indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds, and backing by west to south after about 24 hours. The weather appears likely to be cloudy and unsettled. It will probably become colder after about 24 hours. The barometer is unsteady, but has a falling tendency. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE.
