BOXING OVERSEAS.
SCOTT DEFEATS CAMPOLO. HEAVY-WEIGHT ELIMINATION CONTEST. (Australian Press Association.) NEAV YORK, Sept. 23. Phil Scott (England) met Vittorio Campolo (Argentine) in a ten-round bout at Brooklyn in the heavyweight elimination contest. The Englishman gained the decision on points. Campolo weighed 15st 131 b., and Scott 15st 51b. There was a dispute over oil which Scott had rubbed on, and the tape on his hand, but the Argentinian declared that the Englishman could use as much of the latter -as he liked. •In the first round Campolo took the offensive, but Scott rocked the Argentinian with lefts and a right to the head. Tho Argentinian tore into Scott, and had him in distress. Campolo’s round. In the second round Campolo drew blood from his opponent’s nose with a left. They were slugging away furiously at the bell. The reforce had to prise them apart. Scott’s round. In the third round the Englishman outboxed his opponent. Campolo having trouble in penetrating the Englishman’s guard. Scott’s round.
Both were showing evidence of punishment in the fourth round, both bleeding from the mouth and tiring. The round was even. In the fifth round Scott got over several right hard smashes to the head, and rocked Campolo with a left hook to the chin. Scott’s round.
Campolo rocked the Englishman with a right to the head ,in the sixth round. Both, seemed weary, and the action slowed up, particularly as Scott assumed the defensive. Campolo w.as warned for hitting low with a left. Campolo’s round. Campolo landed a right to the head in the seventh round and rushed the Englishman with bosh hands, scoring throughout the round. Campolo’s round. In the eighth both were fighting, with both fists, but Campolo had the best of the exchanges, staggering the Englishman with a terrific blow to the chin. Scott, however, was a willing mixer. The round was even. In the ninth round the referee warned Scott for pushing Campolo in the face with the open glove. It was a round of close ill-fighting, but Campolo was slowing up and appearing discouraged. Scott’s round. In the tenth Scott was rushing his man all ovor the ring, and had the better of the exchanges as the fight came to an end. Scott’s round. The decision was popular.
FEATHER CHAMPIONSHIP. (Australian Press Association.) NEW \ 7 ORK, Sept. 23. At Hartford, Connecticut, Bat Battaling, the young Italian (Bst 12ilb) took tho featherweight championship from Andre Routis (Sst 5211 b). Routis fought gamely for ten rounds despite numerous cuts on the head. Battalino pushed the fight throughout, and heat Routis with a continuous barrage of hard rights and lefts.
