AYRSHIRE CATTLE.
MEETING OF BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Ayrshire Cattle Breeders’ Association was held to-day, Mr F. Mills, of Hawera, a vice-president, occupying the chair in the absence of the president, Mr A. M. Weir, of Southland. Also present were Messrs C Webb (Levin), J. Aitchison (Linton'.. A. M. Atkins (Manukau), H. Webb (Levin) and C. B. Morgan (Woodville). , , ~ Mr Thcs. Webb reported that the Governor-General. Sir Charles Fergusson, had promised to donate a trophy to the association. Mr D. Buchanan briefly addressed the meeting on Ayrshire cattle seen during his tour abroad. In Canada were the keenest breeders he had ever noted. The cattle were some of the finest in the world and generally of a better standard than those in" New Zealand. He had seen, round Montreal, the best bulbs of his experience as a breeder. They were going in for dehorning which spoilt the appearance of the cattle. The Canadian Government were making large purchases of hulls and the Ayrshire breed was pushing all breeds to one side. This was clue to unity among the breeders. The Canadian cattle compared very favourably with the Scottish. The prices were rising every year and he himself had only been able to purchase oalv.es. The sheds were in verv fine order and one man had expended 20,000 dollars on his buildings. Many farmers also washed their stock night and morning witd a hose.
