CHEMIST FINED.
'Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 25. “It seems to be in conflict with the spirrt of the Act that a drug store where medical prescriptions are- received and are later distributed to patients should be under the control of an unskilled man,” said Mr Page, S.M,. in the course of a judgment lie delivered to-day. “In many cases advice or instructions have to be obtained from a chemist as to the methods of applying or taking a medicine or mixture. This cannot be safely given except by a qualified man.” The case was one in which W. S. Wallace was charged under section 40 of the Pharmacy Act, 1908, that, being a registered chemist, lie kept under his name an open sliop for the compounding or dispensing of prescriptions, the said shop not being under his immediate supervision and control, or that of his duly-enrolled manager. When the case was heard it was stated that the prescriptions were received at the Lambton Quay shop, but were made up at the Willis Street shop. Defendant was fined £5 Is, security for appeal being fixed at £lO 10s.
