THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A rather deep depression is crossing the Dominion. Pressure has risen rapidly behind it over Tasmania. Moderate to strong northerlies in eastern districts from Akaroa northwards; elsewhere west to south-west; southerly winds gradually becoming general, however, and increasing to gale force in places. Seas becoming rough generally in New Zealand waters. Increasing southerly winds and rough seas in the Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather cloudy and unsettled generally with rain; heavy falls in places; snow in parts of the South Island. Temperatures becoming cold.
DISTRICT REPORT. CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED. The Government meteorologist wired to-day:—The indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds and freshening, later backing to a 'southerly, strong to gale. The weather appears likely to be cloudy and unsettled, with rain probable. There will bo mild conditions, but after about 24 hours it will probably become very cold. The barometer is unsteady and has a falling tendency, but will bo rising after •bout 20 hours. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —lft. lOin.
