TIMELY DISCOVERY.

AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. An overpowering smell of gas attracted the attention of two lady teachers at Curran Street School this morning, and they found a man sitting near a gas ring in the teachers’ room with a rug over his head. One of tho teachers promptly turned off the gas, the rug was torn off the man’s head, and first aid was given. The man gradually began to revive, and he was induced to lie down while the police wore called. Two constables went to the school and took the man away. His name is Dannefard, and he is aged about 40 years. The man had been working at the school while the janitor was away ill. At 8.10 this morning he was seen near a gas ring, and one of the teachers then noticed a slight smell of gas. As it was thought by the teacher that the man was a plumber, no particular notice was taken then.-
