DOGS ILL-TREATED.

DROVER FINED. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 26. A drover named Alexander Lewis was charged on two counts in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court with cruelly illtreating dogs. He pleaded guilty. The Senior-Sergeant said that defendant had 14 dogs on his place at Frankton. He left them for three days without food or water, although neighbours had given the dogs some water. The animals were in a starved and wretched condition when the police saw them.

The defendant said that he had relied on a neighbour to feed the dogs during his absence. He was fined £1 and costs on each count.
