(From Our Own Correspondent). SHANNON, Sept. 27. At a meeting of the Buckley Drainage Board on Thursday a resolution was confirmed making application to the Local Government Loans Board to borrow £2400 for the purposes of flood protection improvement works in the board’s district. This loan application carries a subsidy of £2OOO from the Government. Mr Robinson, engineer of the Public AVorks Department, Shannon, waited on the board with reference to his department’s position regarding repairs to the floodgate on Mr Bryant’s property, the Buckley Board maintaining that they havo no legal obligation in the matter. Mr Robinson point ed out that, when his department finished constructing the floodgate, he understood that its liability ceased. The floodgate in itself was of no benefit to the department but was of benefit to tho land owners and the board. The meeting resolved to write to the PubUo Works Department giving the board’s opinion why repairs should be carried out to the floodgate by tho department. There was not a very large fine* at the annual meeting of the Tennis Club held on Wednesday evening. In the absence of the president, Mr B. C. T&yler presided. The year, which commenced with a credit balance of £24 ended with the sum of £56 in hand. Mr E. T. Moody was re-elected president. The vice-presid-ents are Mrs T. Moynihan, Mr A. E. Hyde and Mr J. Curran; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Goodwin; auditor, Mr B. J. Brann; club captain and selector, Mr J. Mabie; committee, Mesdames Cronquest, T. Moynihan, Misses Jones and Sinclair, Dr. Miller, Messrs E. Ewart and B G. Tayler. It was resolved to open the season on October 19th, the subscriptions being fixed at the same rate as last year. The question of top-dressing the courts was left for the committee to consider. Prospects for the ensuing season appear bright and the club should enjoy another prosperous season. , A meeeting of the Boy Scouts committee was held on Thursday evening when the treasurer announced that £l3s 14s 6d was in hand. Dr, Miller is to be asked to address the boys on first aid. The question of purchasing uniforms received further consideration and it was t decided to meet the boys on Monday evening when tho matter will bo discussed with them. At a ineoting of the Croquet Club held in tho pavilion, on Thursday aftornoon, full arrangements wero made for the entertaining of the many expected visitors to the opening day on October 12th. The financial position is very satisfactory and the adoption of several now ideas in tho running of tho club promises an enjoyable season.
