OFFER DECLINED.
WAIPORI HEADWORKS. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sept. 26. The City Council decided to abandon negotiations which have been proceeding for the sale to the Government of the Waipori headworks and to proceed itself with the development of a power station. The Government offered £3,531,845 for the headworks, together with capital expended by the council during the current financial year and proposed to charge the council £4 16s per kilowatt for bulk power delivered. The electric power committee reported adversely on this latter proposal, as the council is at- present generating power at a cheaper rate and can apparently continue to do so. i The ’ report of the committee was adopted unanimously.
