ONE MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT. John Bielby, alias Bilby, alias York, aged 56, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment when he appeared before Mr J. L. Stput. S.M), in the Magistrate’s Court, this morning, and pleaded guilty to the theft of £l, the property of K. M. E. EricksenDetective Russell stated that Bielby was in an hotel bar on Tuesday. Two other men were present and he had “butted” into their conversation. John Tennent, a labourer, aged 37, ploaded guilty to being found drunk in the Square yesterday, but could not remember having used indecent language. . _ . Evidence was given to. the effect that accused had wandered into an office in "the Square, yesterday morning, and bad asked a clerk to put a etamp on a letter that was already stamped. That fact was pointed out to Tennent, who commenced an argument and used indecent language which could have been heard on the street. . Constable Evans stated that he had arrested accused, who had used bad language all the way to the police station. On the drunkenness charge a tine of ss, in default 24 hours’ gaol, was imposed, while the use of indecent language cost accused £2, in default 7 days’ imprisonment.
