THE WEATHER
GENERAL 1 FORECAST. A cyclone -of increasing intensity is now centred about., the western entrance to Cook Strait. Pressure is high over Eastern Australia. Northerly winds at first in eastern districts of the North Island; otherwise winds becoming southerly and increasing gradually to gale force. Seas becoming rough to heavy generally in New Zealand waters. Strong southerly winds to gales, and rough to heavy seas in the Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather dull and-unsettled with general rain; many heavy falls and in places thunder; snow in parts of the South Island. Temperatures becoming very cold. DISTRICT REPORT. COLD AND SHOWERY. The Government meteorologist wired to-day:—The indications are for southerly winds, strong to gale. The weather will probably prove cold and showery. Tho barometer is rising. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—2ft.
