RANGIOTU

RIFLE CLUB BALL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) RANGIOTU, Sept.' 26. Tho fourth annual ball of tho Rifle Club was held in the local hall last Tuesday evening when there was a fairly representative gathering of patrons from far and near. Owing no doubt to the lateness of tho season; the attendance was not so large as at last year’s ball; nevertheless, the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and with a first-class professional orchestra in attendance nothing more was wanting by the lovers of the “light fantastic.” The hall was gaily decorated with green streamers, and clustered paper roses artistically arranged around each of the electric lights made a unique and colourful setting. The walls were set off with a sprinkling of native ferns and flax. Tho success of the decorations is mainly duo to the untiring efforts of Mesdamcs E. Russell, S. McCullum.'F. Searaneke and Messrs D. Hawkcs and T. C. Donaldson. Messrs G. Fitzgerald and W. Nairne were the M.C.’s. After the suppeer adjournment the presentation of the various prizes and tronhies won by members of the club during tho season was made by the president of the club, Mr H. Bond. The president, during the course of his remarks, congratulated the winners of the various prizes and thanked the supporters and members of the club for their loyalty and keen enthusiasm exhibited throughout tho past season. He also oon-

gratulated the secretary, Mr F. Searaneke, for tho efficient and diligent manner 'D. j which he had at all times performed his duties in that capacity and it was gratify- | ing to note that he was once more amongst the prize winners. The prizes were as follow;—Manawatu Association champion, B. grado, gold medal won by F. Robin; Tisdale trophy, won by L. J. Walker; gold medal, donated by H. 11. Simmons _ for most improved shot, Rangi Paki; Reliance Cup, won by F. Searaneke, 3rd time in succession, also a gold modal donated by the president of the club, Mr H. Bond, Rifle Club’s medal for runner-Up in championship. Mr L. J. Walker; camera, won by F. Bond, being the first member to score 138 points during a given period. After the presentation of the abovo prizes and trophies, the president took tho opportunity of presenting a valuable fountain pen to Mr A. Crowe, who is leaving the district, j Mr Crowe had boon a member of the club for several years and the speaker, on behalf of the members of the club and tho residents of the locality, wished him c\ ery success in the future. Mr Crowe suitably responded. During, the later stages of the evening the scene was rendered more gay when tho whole company of. dancing, revellers sported multi-coloured paper, hats, all numbered, made and sold by ladies of the committee. Tho lucky number fell to. Mr D. Havi’ke who became the'recipient of a lovely cake donated by-Mrs Steel,, of Pglmerston North.
