EXTENSIVE GRASS FIRE.

Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Jan. 26. The most extensive grass fire in the country, for years started this afternoon six miles south of Hinds (12 miles from Ashburton).. It destroyed tho county plantation and thousands of acres of pastures and many oat stacks, extending for a distance of twelve miles. One hundred and fifty men fought the flames for six or seven hours, saving four houses and a woolshed with two seasons’ clip. There was no loss of stock, but a large implement shed was burned.
