RELIEF WORKERS’ CLAIM.
ARBITRATION COURT JUDGMENT. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. Reserved judgment of the Arbitration Court in a claim for compensation made by John Frederick Vogel, a relief worker, against the Paparua Countv Council was given in favour of the plaintiff. The case was heard in December. It was of general interest since it dealt with the responsibilities of local bodies in the matter of ’compensation for injury suffered by men given work under the unemployment relief schemes.
The Court held that plaintiff, who was receiving 12s 6d a day for three days a week, was entitled to compensation on his average weakly earnings of 37s 6d pet week, notwithstanding that he had to stand down one week in four.
