ASCENT OF MT. COOK.

TWO PARTIES ON SUMMIT > TOGETHER. Per Press Association. * TIMARU, Jan. 26. On January 22, after a wqek of waiting, Mount Cook was successfully ascended via the Linda Glacier route by two parties. The first of these comprised Ida M. Corry, of the English Ladies’ Alpine Club, Chief Guide Williams aud Chief Guide Alack. The second party comprised Messrs L. Mahan, leader, L. K. Murray and A; Dewar, of Timaru, and L.. V. Bryant, of Oamaru. Two previous attempts were made during the week, but were frustrated owing to the state of the weaBoth parties left the Haast Hut at 1 ajn. on the 22nd. After a hard fight against the wind the summit was reached at 11 o’clock, and, the Haast Hut reached again at 7 p.m. This is believed to be the largest number of people ever to have stood on the summit of Mount Cook together.
