A. Collins) in his illness, and expressed the 1 ' hope that he would soon be restored to health. On his return to Wellington from Honolulu, Hon. W. Downie Stewart, Minister of Finance, was welcomed back and entertained at afternoon tea by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, and his colleagues in the Cabinet.
Dr. L. Cockayne, C.M.G., F.R.S., hap .been awarded a silver Veitch Medal by; the Royal Horticultural Society. The'award is in recognition of his,work for the advancement of horticulture, and was made at the last meeting in 1981 of the council of the society. The death occurred at Taihape on Tuesday after ian illness of six weeks’ duration of Alexander Gordon McGombie eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. McCombie. He was 22 years of age and was well known throughout the Dominion as a Highland dancer. He held several New Zealand championships. The late Mr McCombie was also a prominent golfer.
