UNEMPLOYED RELIEF WORK.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 27. Because it is attracting men frorh harvesting work the No. 5 scheme is to he suspended from February 1 m many of the counties of Canterbury. The Paparua, Halswell, Malvern and Selwyn Councils have already had notification of the suspension of the scheme and it is undertood that other councils may- be notified within the next few days. Numbers of complaints have been received by the board that men are staying on relief works and refusing to accept the lower wages now offered for harvesting, although in the aggre T gate these wages are still greater than those given for relief.
