BURNS NIGHT FUNCTION,
The annual Bums’ Night concert and dance was held by members of the Manawatu Scottish Society this week. Mr J. B. Cooper presided and extended a cordial welcome to those, present. He stated that the whole arrangements for the night. were in the capable hands of the vice-president, Mr J. Walker. Tfie Manawatu Highland Pipe Band opened the proceedings with a selection. The programme included: Chorus, “Scots Wna Hae”; song, Miss B. Kelly, “There was a Lad”; “Star of Robbie Burns.” The-haggis was then played into a darkened hall by . Pipers Smith, Nicholson and Peternna, after whion the president proposed the Grace and served the haggis. ‘‘The Immortal Memory” was ably dealt with by Air D. Low, whose address was much appreciated. Duets by Mesdames Niven and Findlay; “Ye Banks and Braes” and “On the Wings of Song” (accompanied by Mrs Barlow) were rendered; songs, Air Buglass,. “Afton Water,” “Alary of ATgyle”; Scottish dances, Aliss K. Scales; songs, Miss Thomson, “Sleep Thou” and “Coinin’ Thro’ the Rye’ ; songs, Aliss M. Walker, “Oh Aly Love” and “The Road to the Isles.” Misses Skinner and Alenhenett acted as accompanißtes and Mr Smith gs dance pipor. A dance followed supper, which was served bv the ladles’ committee. - Air Glendinning acted as M.O.
