. . WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. Walking up to the box office of . the De Luxe theatre this evening an un-known-man put' his hand through the .glass pigeon hole, -seized a. pile or silver coin! arid decamped down the’street. He did not receive much for his daring effort, which was made iff broad daylight, for when the cash wag checked up a bare pound only was found to be missing. . The,; theft was made just after- the cheapest seats, in the theatre, had been.sold, and therefore just after the early queue .had been ■ admitted. Without any ado. the thief .went to’the ticket box and in a second had put.his hand through the little , hole in the glass. The girl inside'grabbed his arm as he seized the cash,'lint he was'’too* strong and withdraw it., -A. car happened to-be‘passing at the time bound’ for the eastern, suburbs via' the.Kilbirnie. tunnel and this the thief boarded. The happening also had’ been witnessed by one of the men ushers, war standing at the main • entrance. . T'yhe usher got on his motor cycle and managed to stop the car just as it was com-' ing out of the eastern • portah of- the tunnel. A search , for the .thief was made, but he had apparently left the car some time before the tunnel was entered. .. . -
