HONOLULU TRIAL.
WASHINGTON’S ATTITUDE. REPERCUSSIONS EXPECTED. * Received January 30, 1.30 p.m. HONOLULU, Jan. 29. The Court action here is expected to bring repercussions from Washington, since the strong navy party there, assisted by the Southern Congress men, whose racial prejudices are well known, is determined to take the Fortescue case out of the hands of the constituted legal authorities of Honolulu, as part of a long, campaign to curb the local Government in Hawaii, and substitute it by a more centralised authority, upon which the Navy could more readily exert pressure. Action by Congress is deemed likely. Meanwhile the procedure here was quite orderly as the -defendants were handed over, to the city police, without untoward demonstrations. They are now confined in. the city jail awaiting Washington action on the matter of bail.
