SEVEN-MILE BRIDGE

AMERICAN SCHEME.

Plans for a bridge ' between San Francisco and Oakland, to cost £15,000,000, have been approved. The bridge, which is to be seven miles in length, will take the plaee of tho 1 Golden Gate suspension plan. The site proposed for the crossing is several miles up the bay. The bridge will .connect San Francisco with Yerba Buena Island. There will then bo a tunnel through the island, with another bridge at right angles toward the Oakland shore. The structure will he 214 ft above the water, permitting all ships to pass under it. There will be six traffic lanes, with electric tracks underneath, and the longest span will be 1700 ft.
