RAILWAY TRAFFIC.
HEAVY PASSENGER LISTS. With large numbers of people returning home after spending holidays in other parts of the island, railway traffic through Palmerston North, as the pivot of the North Island lines, was exceptionally heavy, each express comprising about fifteen vehicles packed with passengers. The Limited express from Auckland to-day was a heavy train, and the second express, of ten vehicles, was also crowded. Tho department had to run an extra Main Trunk train of eight vehicles which passed through here shortly after 10 o’clock. This also was packed. „■ The traffic on the Hawke’s Bay line was exceptionally heavy and the trains were delayed slightly. Three carriages had to be added to the Wel-lington-Napier train, while three were also added en route to the NapierWellirigton train which comprised fifteen vehicles when it passed through Palmerston North. The New Plymouth and Wanganui line also had big trains. The express which passed through here at 1 o’clock had to have three carriages added at Palmerston 1 North to cope with the demand. , „ , , With the large number of scholars in the list considerable luggage .ras carried and the vans were packed.
