GENERAL - FORECAST.! | : The last of a long series of westerly depressions has moved on to the Dominion, and a low centre has - developed near Kaikoura. An anti-cyclorje now covers southern . Australia, with its centre near Melbourne. Moderate to strong northerly to westerly windß, still of gale force in the central provinces; southerlies, however, prevailing in the far south and extending soon. over the Dominion as a whole. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and Napier: elsewhere moderate in • New Zealand waters. Moderate to strong westerly, backing to southerly, winds in tiie eastern Tasman Sea; seas moderate in the northern portion, and rough to heavy in the central and southern portion. Weather squaUy and changeable, with rain' in most districts; thunder in places. Temperatures becoming cooler.
DISTRICT REPORT.
The Government meteorologist wired to-day:—Tho indications axe for southerly moderate to strong winds. The weather will probably be cool and changeable, with scattered showers, but there will be an improvement. (The barometer is rising slowly.
