The ranks of the . band had been strengthened by the inclusion of M J Cosgrove, a very capable eupho niuip player. The standard of the playing had been fairly well maintained, the members turning up well on all occasions. The band was in need of certain players to bring it up to full strength and the bandmaster hoped to be able to fill these vacancies with the boys who were at learning. The social life of the band was all that could be desired. The prospects for the coming .year seemed to be quite good, providing/the present members of the band preserved the same interest in the band as they had done in the past. The bandmaster thanked the members for the support they had given him, also the general committee who had worked so generously in the interests of the ba The report and balance were adopted and the following officers elected: —Patron, Hon. J. G. Cobbe; president, Mr T. CoUins; vice-presi-dents, the Mayor (Mr 0. E. Taylor), and Messrs A. C. McCorkmdale and J. G. Eliott; secretary. Mr N. C. Harding; assistant-secretary, Mr A. E Garlick; treasurer, Mr Collins: auditor, Mr C. B. Aitken: general committee, Messrs P. P. Stevens, C. S. Jeffs, W. H. Clayton, 0. Sporle, H. Parsonage, P. J}'. Guy, H. Hope and G. Wilkinson. ■ The librarian and * the band, registrar, Messrs G'. Smith and A. E. Ganlick, were voted an honorarium of £5 eacli for the year’s work. It was resolved that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that the band visit the Foxton Beach. A further recommendation to the incoming committee was that a bazaar be held for the band during the year. The following remit to the annual conference of the New Zealand Brass Bands Association was carried: —That the prize money to the'A, B, and C grade bands be revised with a view to bringing them more into line as the margin between A and B grades is too great. The conductor,- Mr Greening, was appointed the band’s delegate to the conference.
WELCOME RAINFALL,
A, very welcome and beneficial fall of rain was experienced in Feilding and district last night,, and this morning the heat-jaded gardens looked much refreshed. Although the fall was not of a very lengthy nature, it will do much to give growing crops a much-needed fillip and also freshen the pastures.
OBITUARY.
Mr Louis F‘. Vail, a well-known resident of Weld Street, Feilding, passed away at Palmerston North yesterday morning after a short illness. He had not enjoyed good health for some time,, but his death was unexpected. He was a tailor by occupation. He leaves a widow, who is a member of a" wellknown Feilding family, being formerly Miss Fairfield Thompson, and much sympathy will be extended to her in her loss. The late Mr Vail was in his 4>2nd year. .
